First Wedding in Sylvan 
On July 29, 1906, Arthur Dennis and Carrie Herrick were married, the first wedding in Sylvan. With no automobiles or carriages on Fox Island, a Wedding Chariot was created by Messrs. Booker, Wines and others from the 'Stone Boat', a wood sled used to haul rocks from farmed fields. Decorated with green foliage, it could hardly be recognized as the farm implement.
